Lancashire-based library supplier Askews is preparing to supply e-books to libraries. The service will compete with US company Overdrive, which presented its e-book offer to UK libraries this week, attracting attendees from as far afield as Berkshire, Surrey and Kent.

Askews sales manager Andy Holland said: “We are developing an e-book service for public library customers and we envisage it will be up and running by the back-end of this year.” The service will be handled through parent Gardners’ digital warehouse, and will offer access to e-book and spoken word downloads for download from library websites, with the potential of also offering DVD downloads in the future.
