call for papers ends Sunday 5th!

Submissions for papers are welcome for the 9th Collection Development Seminar for Academic Libraries.

The theme for this Seminar is ‘Practical Solutions to Impossible Problems’

Libraries and Librarians are beset, on all sides, by a range of problems that profoundly affect the ways in which we can deliver services. Economical, political, logistical, legal, and sometimes even philosophical considerations impact heavily upon all aspects of Library operations. Responding to and managing this wide range of requirements, restrictions and expectations is often fundamental to how Librarians manage to provide our users with positive and useful experiences. Librarians frequently use creative and imaginative solutions to navigate these choppy waters and we want to hear about them. We would welcome papers that show the workflows/systems/policies that people are using to either resolve issues or just provide better services in the following areas:

  • Facing the challenges of stretched budgets and increase demand

  • Tackling access versus ownership

  • Increasing usage and discovery of Open Access content

  • Adopting new systems/procedures – we are interested in the perfect implementation of shiny, out of the box systems and also the rough and ready workarounds that are needed to make shiny, out of the box systems function in the ways that you want them

  • Data analysis – value for money, impact demonstration, usage statistics
