Discover how the University of Salford Library is transforming its collections to promote diversity and inclusion. A key part of the Inclusive Collections Project, the Book Displays Project seeks to diversify the Library’s collections by promoting leisure reading that challenges dominant narratives and celebrates underrepresented voices. Through curated book displays and online reading lists aligned with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) calendar, the Inclusive Collections Project promotes reading that amplifies underrepresented voices and fosters a sense of belonging across campus.

Our speakers:
Book displays have become a key part of the Inclusive Collections Project at the University of Salford, prompting the creation of a dedicated team in 2024 to support their growing popularity.This team consists of Dean Brown, Beth Lanigan and Cameron Fragoso.
Dean Brown:
Dean is the Reading List Support Administrator at the University of Salford, where he oversees the institution’s reading list and digitisation services. Beyond academic resources, he also curates and manages the library’s diverse non-academic collections, including leisure reading, wellbeing, and children’s materials. Dean plays an active role in the library’s Inclusive Collections Project, leading initiatives that bring awareness to key social and cultural topics through curated library displays throughout the year.
Beth Lanigan:
Beth is an Information Support Assistant at the University of Salford Library, providing front-line support to students, staff, and the wider community. She focuses on making library resources accessible and works across teams, with a special interest in Inclusive Collections. Beth curates monthly book displays aligned with the university’s EDI calendar, showcasing underrepresented voices and gathering user feedback to shape future initiatives.
Cameron Fragoso:
Cameron is a Senior Information Assistant at the University of Salford. With a focus on metadata & discovery, archives, and content engagement, Cameron helps shape how knowledge is organized and accessed across the university. As a contributor to the Library’s Inclusive Collections project, Cameron puts together book displays and identifies resources that promote diversity and representation—ensuring the library reflects the voices and experiences of the entire academic community.
