We’ve all had to try and deal diplomatically with donations. How do you handle it without alienating your user community who genuinely believe their book is perfect for the library?

We, in the first instance, try to decline and suggest charity shops etc. However, after this we do say we will take them, but we make it very clear that the books are only added to stock at the discretion of the librarians, and they may either be at a different library to the drop off branch or may be sustainably recycled.
