Nielsen Book today announced it has signed a deal with leading library AV supplier, Library Multimedia Supplies. LMS, part of the Pilton Group of companies which in turn is a wholly owned subsidiary of DCC Plc, will make BookData Multimedia MARC records available via their website www.librarymultimedia.com. Customers will be able to select products from the LMS website and download the corresponding BookData Multimedia MARC record, making the process of accessing high quality MARC data as seamless as possible.
Gary Green, Director of LMS, commented “We have found that the level of detail and timeliness of data from Nielsen Book and Rovi (formerly Muze Europe) is of the highest quality and allows us to improve the accuracy and usefulness of our online service.”
The BookData MARC service for AV titles is produced using Rovi’s multimedia records and Nielsen Book’s MARC expertise and therefore reflects the breadth and quality of data available from Rovi. MARC records are available in both UKMARC and MARC21 formats for recorded music CD and video titles covering all genres. In order to take advantage of this service libraries will need to enter into a subscription agreement directly with Nielsen Book but, as the company already supplies data services to most public libraries, this will be a straightforward process.
LMS already use Rovi data for their customer website, which means that when a librarian finds a title on the LMS site, Nielsen Book is able to supply the corresponding MARC record from its database, which ensures a high level of data consistency and provides access to the most trusted source of AV product data available.
Paul Dibble, Head of Data Sales for Nielsen Book, said “We are extremely excited about working with LMS and to allow our MARC records to be used by a wider audience. Both Nielsen Book and LMS are respected in the library market place and this arrangement demonstrates our commitment, and theirs, to providing librarians with the best data available.”
Gary Green, of LMS, added: “The addition of BookData Multimedia MARC records means that we are now able to make this data available to all our library customers and we will be working closely with Nielsen Book to support and promote the service to our existing and prospective ecustomers over the coming weeks. The partnership between Nielsen Book, Rovi and LMS brings together the three premier service providers operating in the library audio visual supply market place guaranteeing the best possible service to our customers”.
