Nielsen Book has been awarded a BIC e4libraries accreditation for its commitment to the library sector and its innovative library services. Nielsen Book is one of only three service providers, and the first bibliographic data supplier, which have been accredited, bringing the total number of libraries and suppliers awarded to twenty. A remarkable achievement for BIC and the industry as the scheme reaches its first birthday.
E4libraries is a project being driven by BIC to improve the efficiency of the library supply chain through the application of technology and commitment to standards. These goals are shared by Nielsen Book which has worked closely with BIC firstly on the e4books project and now on the e4libraries initiative. Nielsen Book was quick to introduce the E4Libraries Subject Category Headings, launched last year, to its range of library services. In addition to bibliographic data, Nielsen Book provides a unique range of integrated library services designed to inform library stock decisions, cataloguing book and multimedia materials and trusted electronic trading services.
Paul Dibble, Head of Data Sales at Nielsen Book, says “We are delighted to have achieved e4libraries accreditation. The e4libaries project is very close to our hearts as we continually strive to deliver cost efficient services for our customers and work closely with the trade on industry standards. Having the e4libraries accreditation reinforces our commitment to libraries, the industry as a whole and this initiative.”
‘We have made a solid start with the scheme,’ said Martin Palmer, chair of the e4libraries steering committee and BIC board member, ‘with ten libraries, seven stock suppliers and three service providers seeing the value of accreditation, but we hope to have many more in 2010. Accreditation puts the spotlight on organisations which have made a real effort to increase their efficiency, and provides a benchmark for others. With funding always an issue, particularly for public libraries, these organisations do have something to shout about.’
